"FEMINISM MADE FRIENDLY"
Feminism needs a new language. One that is culturally viable; that everyone can relate to. This website and my work is about furthering this cause.
The struggle for women’s equality was one of the defining events of the twentieth century and feminism was the ideological engine that powered it. But women’s rights are by no means guaranteed. Every day our rights and protections are being undermined and dismantled and if history is any guide, they could all disappear over night. Yet millions of women have no idea what any of this means, or why we had to fight those battles in the first place.
Feminism is women’s knowledge about our history and where we stand in society. The question is, how do we transmit this knowledge so that it becomes part of the common cultural narrative – and in turn, part of our collective consciousness? Segments from my book at Essays & Excerpts are examples of describing the issues in ordinary and engaging language.
Seminars are based on my book, TALKING THE WALK, The Grassroots Language of Feminism © Marilyn Casselman 2008 – and use the principles of feminism to create an intellectual framework establishing the connections between women’s issues and their inner and outer reality. Participants then use this information in a special workshop technique to re-tell stories according to their own truth and reality. This telling provides the actual experience of creating new language and introduces the individual’s experience, talents, values and wisdom into the dialogue.
Topics in my speaker series are developed from a feminist angle and presentations are followed by discussions and short exercises when practical. See "What Talking The Walk Is Talking About" (above left) for a partial list.
Feminism Made Friendly is for mainstream women using real-life smarts to recover their lost language and at the same time, counter the dominance of the male dogma and narrative. The goal is to create a pathway for an evolution in consciousness which embodies the transformative force which feminism has already proven itself to be – a remembered way of thinking. A way that describes what it means to be a woman living in this century – and define it, as we did the Twentieth.
